Minh Vu

Minh Alva Vu was born in Tucson, Arizona, on September 27, 1990, and his playing record is a fairly clean example of the route many Arizona players take: a college career first, and only then a shot at a professional contract. He is listed at 5 ft 10 in (1.78 m) and played as an attacking midfielder or forward, the kind of profile that gets described as a number 10 long before anyone hands out the shirt.

The college years split in two. Vu spent 2009 and 2010 at Pima Community College in Tucson, the junior college that has quietly fed a lot of southern Arizona talent into four-year programs, then transferred to Penn State and played for the Nittany Lions in 2011 and 2012. This profile is written independently of it, but it is a small reminder of why an archive like this exists: a lower-league signing in February is the sort of fact that evaporates unless somebody writes it down.

Vu's heritage is part of the public record because it briefly shaped his career. His father is Vietnamese and his mother is Spanish, and in early 2016 the Asian football press reported that he was pursuing Vietnamese citizenship in order to join SHB Da Nang, a club in Vietnam's V-League. What the record shows next is instructive. No Vietnamese club appears in his career table, and by that same year he was playing in Arizona again. Whether the move fell through on paperwork, on terms, or on something else is not documented, and this archive does not guess. The same year he also turned out for Arizona United SC, the Phoenix club playing in the USL, for 2 appearances without a goal. Arizona United is worth flagging for anyone reading this in the present tense: after the 2016 season the club was rebranded as Phoenix Rising FC, so Vu's two matches sit in the last chapter of a name that no longer exists. Between Tucson and Phoenix, 2016 is the one season in which his career touched both of Arizona's main clubs.

After 2016 the trail thins, as it does for most players who do not settle at one professional club. In 2018 Vu made 4 appearances for the San Francisco Glens, a long-established Bay Area amateur club, without scoring. There is no listed club for 2015, 2017 or 2019, which is not unusual at this level: a player can be training, working, or playing in competitions that simply do not get recorded.

From 2020 he has been listed with Deportivo La Real FC of the National Soccer League, an independent competition outside the USL structure, wearing the number 10. The line in the record is unusual: 8 appearances and 12 goals, a return that speaks to a player who had moved down a level or two and was now the best attacking player on his pitch most weeks. Whether he is still turning out for the club is not something this archive can confirm; the record lists him as active, and that is where the entry stands.
